Growing up, I never ever gave an 1985 Audi 4000 my full attention or even my eyes. I didn’t start appreciating them until recently, which is significant. Maybe it was because, until that time, I hadn’t driven one and didn’t know much about Audi vehicles other than the Sport quattro or the 90 Coupe quattro my friend was considering. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, when I first joined Audi/Volkswagen forums, the Audi 4000S was nearly revered. I drove one as well, and I ultimately got it. A 4000S Audi is not flashy, glamorous, or common, yet it has a certain commodity.

The 5+5 was essentially a two-door 80 B2 saloon equipped with the 5000’s 2144 cc five-cylinder engine and five-speed transmission, which would later be used in the Audi 90.
