We came across this 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT Spyder in July 2023, listed by its owner in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, for $9,600. The ad is long gone, but we keep the record here. A real asking price for a clean, low-mile Spyder is a useful number when you are trying to price one.

What this car was
A dark red convertible with a tan soft top and tan leather seats. The seller listed 48,000 miles and described the car as very clean, and the photos back that up: the paint is glossy, the headlight lenses are clear and the seats show only light creasing.

As a GT, it had the 3.0-liter SOHC 24-valve V6 rather than the four-cylinder of the GS, paired here with an automatic. The equipment list in the ad included:
- Power convertible top
- Alloy wheels and front fog lights
- Anti-lock brakes and four-wheel disc brakes
- Front and rear anti-roll bars
- A CD stereo, power mirrors and tilt steering

Was $9,600 a fair ask?
It was on the high side for a 2001 Eclipse, which is mostly a cheap car on the used market. The low mileage, the V6 and the tidy interior are what justified asking more than usual. Convertible tops and leather are the things that get expensive on these, so a car with both in good shape is worth a premium to the right buyer. We would still expect the final sale to land below the ask.
A little Eclipse history
The Eclipse was built in Normal, Illinois, at the plant Mitsubishi originally shared with Chrysler. The third generation arrived for the 2000 model year with rounder styling and front-wheel drive only, dropping the turbo and all-wheel-drive versions of earlier cars. The Spyder convertible joined the range for 2001, and the GT used the 3.0-liter V6 shared with other Mitsubishi and Chrysler models.
