We came across this 2002 Honda S2000 in June 2023, listed for $34,000 by a private seller in Peapack, New Jersey. It had 28,000 miles and had never been modified. Unmodified, low-mile S2000s are what the market chases now, so we keep this one on file as a price point.
What this car was
An early AP1 S2000 in silver with a black leather interior and a black soft top. The photos show a clean car on stock wheels, with the original engine bay layout untouched. The seller’s listing was short and focused on history:
- 28,000 miles
- Completely stock, never modified
- Serviced by Honda throughout, with full maintenance records and receipts
- Adult driven and garage kept
- Clean Carfax report
- Six-speed manual transmission

The engine bay photo shows the red-topped 2.0-liter four with its factory airbox and no aftermarket parts in sight. That matters with these cars, since many were modified and tracked.

Inside, the black leather seats and the shift boot look tidy, which matches the low mileage.

Was $34,000 a fair ask?
For a stock, documented AP1 with 28,000 miles, $34,000 was in line with where the S2000 market sat in 2023. What helped: low miles, no modifications, dealer service and a clean history. What could hurt: silver is a common color, and the early cars are the most numerous. Buyers who wanted a clean, original example would have seen it as a fair, not cheap, ask.
A little S2000 history
Honda built the S2000 from 1999 to 2009 to mark the company’s 50th anniversary. The early AP1 cars used the F20C, a 2.0-liter four that revved to 9,000 rpm and drove the rear wheels through a six-speed manual. From 2004 the US cars got a larger 2.2-liter engine with a lower redline.
