We spotted this 1980 Ford F100 on Craigslist in July 2023. Its owner in Longmeadow, Massachusetts was asking $11,000, with 118,000 miles showing. The ad has expired. We keep the record here because a real asking price for a sorted, driver-quality F100 is a useful guide for anyone shopping for one.
What this car was
A regular cab, short bed F100 in blue and silver two-tone paint, with chrome bumpers and full wheel covers. The seller said it had spent its early life with one family on a farm before the current owner bought it, and that there was only minimal surface rust underneath.
It ran a six-cylinder engine with an automatic transmission. The seller listed a good amount of recent mechanical work:
- New fan belts, radiator hoses and filters
- A replacement carburetor
- Brakes checked
- Tune-up with new plugs, wires, rotor and cap
- A new battery
The cab had been refreshed too, with new vinyl seat upholstery, door panels, carpet, seat belts and LED dash lights, plus an added AM/FM radio. The bed had a new liner.
Was $11,000 a fair ask?
For a six-cylinder automatic F100 it was a confident price, but the truck had a lot going for it. The paint looked good, the cab was freshly redone, and most of the routine service items were new. Buyers usually pay more for V8 and four-wheel-drive trucks, and for older body styles. Someone wanting a usable, clean old Ford without project work would see the value here.
A little F-100 history
The 1980 model year brought a new generation of Ford F-Series with a squarer, more aerodynamic body, and this truck is from that first year. The F-100 was the lightest half-ton model in the range. Ford dropped the F-100 name after 1983, leaving the F-150 as its half-ton pickup.
