We spotted this 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue on Craigslist in July 2023, offered by a dealer in Burlington, New Jersey, for $2,350 with 73,000 miles. The ad has expired, but we keep the record. Late Oldsmobiles are cheap and easy to overlook, and a real asking price helps anyone trying to value one.

What this car was

A silver Intrigue sedan with a gray cloth interior. The paint looks consistent in the photos and the body is straight, with only minor wear for its age. The listing said it ran and drove well, and it had power windows and tires in good condition.

The interior photos show clean gray cloth seats without tears, and a console shifter for the automatic.

The engine is the interesting part. The cover in the photos reads 3.5L Twin Cam V6, the Aurora-derived engine that Oldsmobile phased into the Intrigue during 1999 to replace the older 3.8-liter V6. It drives the front wheels through an automatic.

Was $2,350 a fair ask?

It looked like a fair price. Low miles, a tidy interior and a car that runs and drives well are what matter at this end of the market, and this one had all three. The twin-cam V6 is more complex to service than GM’s pushrod V6, so a buyer would want to know it had been looked after. Even so, at this price there wasn’t much room to go wrong.

A little Intrigue history

Oldsmobile launched the Intrigue for the 1998 model year to replace the Cutlass Supreme. It shared GM’s W-body platform with cars like the Buick Regal and the Pontiac Grand Prix, but with cleaner styling and a more European feel. Early cars used the 3.8-liter V6, with the 3.5-liter twin-cam taking over. The Intrigue ran through 2002, two years before Oldsmobile closed.
