1994 Cadillac Fleetwood: Spotted for Sale in October 2022

We spotted this 1994 Cadillac Fleetwood on Cars.com in October 2022, listed by a dealer with 83,000 miles. Our original page didn’t record the asking price, and the ad has expired. We keep the record because the last rear-drive Fleetwoods have a real following, and every documented example helps.

What this car was

A dark green-blue sedan, which the dealer called green, with a padded vinyl roof, chrome-finish wheels and a gray leather interior. Our old page called it a “Fleetwood Base” and gave no year, but the VIN in the ad decodes to a 1994 Fleetwood. The ad also called it a Brougham, which was an option package on these cars.

The car had the 5.7-liter LT1 V8 and a four-speed automatic. The ad said the front wheels drove the car, which was wrong: the 1993 to 1996 Fleetwood was rear-wheel drive, and that is a big part of its appeal. The dealer said the doors and seats were in very good shape, and the photos agree. The gray leather looks lightly creased, and the wood trim is intact.

A little Fleetwood history

The Fleetwood name came from the Fleetwood Metal Body company of Fleetwood, Pennsylvania, a coachbuilder that became part of General Motors in the 1920s and built Cadillac’s custom bodies. Cadillac used it on its most expensive cars for decades. For 1993 it returned as a full-size, rear-drive sedan on GM’s big body-on-frame chassis, and the LT1 V8, a relative of the Corvette engine, arrived for 1994. Production ended in 1996, which made it the last of Cadillac’s traditional body-on-frame, rear-drive sedans.

These cars are valued for their size, comfort and towing ability. Buyers usually check the Optispark distributor on the LT1, the condition of the vinyl roof and the rear frame for rust.
