We found this 1986 Chevrolet Scottsdale 20 on Craigslist in July 2023. The owner in Absecon, New Jersey was asking $7,600 and listed 67,000 miles. The ad has since expired. We keep the record here because square-body Chevy trucks keep climbing in value, and real asking prices help buyers and sellers stay grounded.

What this car was

A three-quarter-ton Chevy pickup in the mid-level Scottsdale trim, painted dark brown over tan. It looked like a working truck that had been looked after. It wore a white bed cap with Budweiser lettering, chrome bumpers and the stacked-headlight grille of the later square-body trucks.

Power came from a 5.7-liter V8 with an automatic transmission. The seller said the inside was cream and that the truck ran well, with no significant rust.

The seller listed the body damage plainly:

  • A dent on the rear passenger-side panel
  • A slight bend in the rear bumper
  • A small dent above the driver-side taillight

Was $7,600 a fair ask?

We think it was a fair price. A V8 automatic square-body with low stated miles and little rust is what most buyers want. The dents and bent bumper would knock a little off, and three-quarter-ton trucks usually bring less than half-ton C10s with the same look. The upside for a buyer is that the damage was cosmetic and clearly shown in the ad. The Budweiser cap is a fun period piece, but most buyers would value the truck the same with or without it.

A little Scottsdale history

Chevrolet’s C/K trucks of 1973 to 1987 are now known as the square-body generation. In the 1980s the trim ladder ran from Custom Deluxe to Scottsdale to Silverado, so the Scottsdale was the middle choice. The 20 in the badge marks a three-quarter-ton truck. The pickup was replaced by an all-new design for 1988.
