A black 2009 Mercedes-Benz GL 320 BlueTEC has been sitting on Marketplace in Calgary since August 2026 at C$7,500, and it was still up when we checked in late October. The ad is three lines long: the car is in good condition, it has no air suspension, and the seller no longer needs it. The mileage is 214,000 km. We are logging it because a seven-seat diesel GL for this money is about as cheap as a running one gets.
What it is
The GL-Class is the full-size, three-row Mercedes SUV built in Alabama from 2007. The GL 320 BlueTEC is the 2009 version of the diesel, with the 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel and the urea injection system that let Mercedes sell it in every state. This one is black over black leather on the standard alloy wheels, with running boards and a roof rack.

What the seller says:
- Car in good condition
- No air suspension
- No longer needed

The photos show a clean black cabin, a second row that looks barely used and a cargo area with the third row folded flat under a rubber mat. The ad does not say whether the vehicle was converted to steel springs or ordered without the Airmatic system, so that is the first question to ask.
Why this car matters
The GL was the first full-size, three-row SUV Mercedes ever built, and they built it in Alabama specifically for North American families who wanted a Suburban with a three-pointed star. The 2009 GL 320 BlueTEC was the first diesel GL that could be sold in all 50 states, because the urea injection system cleaned up the exhaust enough to pass the toughest rules of the day. It makes 398 lb-ft of torque, tows 7,500 pounds and seats seven, and it does that on highway fuel economy that no gas GL could touch. What makes it cool is that it is a legitimate heavy hauler in a tuxedo. A GL diesel at this price is one of the cheapest ways to move seven people and a trailer in comfort.

Is C$7,500 a fair ask?
The price is low for a GL diesel, and the mileage is only moderate for the engine. What helps the ask is that the body and interior look well kept in the photos and that a conventional spring setup removes the most expensive suspension failure these trucks have. What hurts it is the thin description. There is no service history, no mention of the oil cooler seals, the AdBlue heater or the emissions recall, and a GL of this age with any of those outstanding can cost half the purchase price to put right. It is a fair ask for a buyer who can inspect it properly, and a gamble for anyone who cannot.
A little GL-Class history
The first-generation GL (X164) ran from 2007 to 2012. The diesel arrived as the GL 320 CDI for 2007 and 2008, became the GL 320 BlueTEC for 2009 and the GL 350 BlueTEC from 2010, all with the same 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel and a 7-speed automatic. Every GL seats seven, and the diesel was the version most owners chose for towing.
