We spotted this 1994 Pontiac Bonneville SE on Cars.com in October 2022, offered by a Chicago dealer for $10,950. The ad is gone, but we keep the record here. Very clean ’90s GM sedans are starting to attract collector interest, and real asking prices are the best way to track that.

What this car was

A black four-door SE sedan with a grey interior, photographed inside the dealer’s showroom. The paint has a deep shine with no visible fading, the body-side moldings and chrome trim are intact, and the wheels look clean. The showroom setting, with vintage signs on the walls, suggests a dealer that specializes in older cars. The plate frame identifies the dealer as Windy City Motors.

Our original post was run through an article spinner and lost almost all of the ad text, so we don’t have the mileage or the equipment list. The asking price and the photos are what we can stand behind.

Was $10,950 a fair ask?

It was a high price for a Bonneville SE, which was a common family sedan in its day. The condition in the photos goes some way to explain it: cars this clean are rare now, and dealers that specialize in low-mileage older cars price them accordingly. Without the mileage we can’t judge it fully. If the odometer showed very low miles, the ask was defensible. With average miles, it was well above what these cars usually change hands for.

A little Bonneville history

Pontiac used the Bonneville name from 1957 to 2005, named after the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. It started as a limited-production, fully loaded convertible and spent decades as Pontiac’s big rear-wheel-drive car. For 1987 it moved to GM’s front-wheel-drive H-body, shared with the Buick LeSabre and Oldsmobile 88. This car belongs to the generation introduced for 1992, which used a 3.8-liter V6.
