We spotted this 1970 Plymouth Fury sedan in July 2023, listed on eBay from Monterey, California, at just under $5,000 with 76,000 miles. The listing has ended, but we keep the record. Original, unrestored four-door Mopars rarely come up with this much honest detail.
What this car was
A light blue four-door with a matching blue interior, sold as a one-owner car that had spent its whole life in Monterey, according to the seller. It still wore its original California blue-and-yellow plates. The paint is worn thin and there is visible rust around the trunk lid and rear bumper.
The seller was clear about where it stood:
- Straight body with no accident history, but some rust in places
- Not driven since 2011, then given a new timing chain, timing cover, water pump and fuel lines
- Factory air conditioning and power steering
- Heater works; the A/C had not been charged in years
- Needed carburetor work but ran and drove
- Original blue interior, in need of cleaning
Was just under $5,000 a fair ask?
For a running, original car with recent cooling and timing work, it was a fair price. The four-door body is the least valuable version of a 1970 Fury, which kept the ask low, and the rust, stale A/C and carburetor job would add to the bill. For someone who wanted an unmolested big Mopar to preserve or drive as-is, the price was easy to understand.
A little Fury history
The Fury started in 1956 as Plymouth’s high-performance special hardtop. By the 1970s it was the name for the whole full-size line, sold as the Fury I, Fury II and Fury III, with the Sport Fury above them. Plymouth restyled the big cars in 1969, so this 1970 car shares that wide, flat-sided body.
